Bit of an annoying day today to be totally honest.
Our first session was at a school called St George's. We arrived at 8:30 for a 9:00 session. Our first session was with a group of 15 year olds who were very challenging. We expected around about 12 but 35 kids turned up! Which of course is great but it makes the group harder to control as it becomes less personal as the number of pupils increases. The session went okay but the majority of the kids were quite badly behaved! Our second group was age 12-13, who weren't as naughty but just lacked the ability to listen or concentrate.
Our next session was at Lester Vaughan. The session was cancelled when we arrived because they had cross country assessments. Annoying! Hopefully they're up for it next week.
Our third session was also cancelled because the 'water was off'. Not sure what that meant in terms of the kids being able to participate but we was told that the session would not happen. This cancellation was a bit more frustrating because we had waited around for quite a while in the heat!
After dropping Shaq (our guide for the first week) home, it took me and Sharon about an hour and a bit to get home. Despite the island being small, we still have to find our way around with only a map and our common sense as a guide. It'll take a couple weeks to get use to I guess so any driving mistakes we make ,we will most definitely learn from.
Quite a frustrating day, but Shaz and I have stressed to each other to remain positive despite a rocky first day!! Hopefully things improve!
All the best
Luke.
